IR 270 and US 23 Northern Interchange

Project Date: 2016 – 2017

This project reconfigured the northern interchange of IR 270 and US 23 and added capacity to US 23. The project includes the addition of lanes, storm sewer work, construction of bridges, traffic control, lighting, reconstruction of various local roads, utility work, and thru traffic on US 23 NB with the construction of depressed express lanes.

The loop ramp from IR 270 E to US 23 N and the loop ramp from IR 270 W to US 23 S, were reconfigured and traffic signals were added at each of the new ramps to allow for better traffic flow.  US 23 was widened from Northwoods boulevard to Lazelle Road from two lanes to three lanes in each direction. 

An additional lane was added on US 23 southbound from IR 270 to Northwoods Boulevard.  The “Trench” or two northbound express lanes on US 23 were built under the surface roads and carry through traffic from just north of IR 270 to just south of Northwoods Boulevard North.

True Inspection Services provided construction inspection and daily documentation of work performed by the contractors and material testing on the construction project.

Mr. Quesenberry provided general coating and structure inspection on the FRA-23-22.91 Structure. He also assisted with observations of the non-epoxy concrete sealing system in the Trench portion and on the MSE walls throughout the project. He also tested concrete and observed asphalt placement.  He monitored the work completed each day and completed daily reports.
