New Ramp From 315 S. To I-270 E. AND U.S. 23

Project Date: 2016 – 2017

This project reconfigured the interchanges at IR 270 and SR 315 and IR 270 and US 23.  The project includes the addition of lanes, storm sewer work, construction of bridges, traffic control, lighting, reconstruction of a bike path, and utility work.

New ramps were built from US 23 south to SR 315 to separate from the US 23 south to I 270 west ramp.  An additional lane was built on I 270 east that starts just west of Linworth Rd. This new lane is a bridge over top of the SR 315 ramp and is the designated exit lane for I-270 east traffic to access U.S. 23.

The “loop ramp” from SR 315 south to I-270 east was eliminated and a new “flyover ramp” was built.  A new bridge was built for SR 315 north traffic that goes to I-270 east and U.S. 23.

The new ramp from SR 315 north and south was widened to two lanes – one for traffic exiting at U.S. 23 and one for traffic staying on I-270 east. The combination of these new travel lanes provided for less weaving and merging or “jockeying” for the same piece of pavement.

An additional lane was added to SR 315N from SR 161 to I270.  Also, about 1,000 feet of the Olentangy Trail was reconstructed underneath the new interstate ramps at I-270 and SR 315.

True Inspection Services provided construction inspection and daily documentation of work performed by the contractors and material testing on the construction project.

Senior Inspector

Mr. Quesenberry provided full time inspection duties on this project.  The project included nearly every phase of heavy highway construction including earthwork, structures, MOT, roadway pavements, sub-base, guardrail drainage, and structural steel coatings application. Inspector responsibilities on the project included inspection of the contractor’s compliance with the specifications, as well as testing of all facets and phases of work including core samples of asphalt, QC class concrete testing, measurement calculations, as well as, Site Manager diary entry, writing daily work reports for multiple contractor crews, entering contractor payments, and progress reporting.

Braedon Phillips

Coatings Inspector

Mr. Phillips provided coatings inspection services ensuring compliance with ODOT’s Construction and Material Specifications for the overcoating of the shop primed steel. The project required multiple newly constructed bridges to be painted with an IZEU paint system referenced in C&MS 514.  His responsibilities included documentation of all Quality Control Points for washing, painting, and performing hold point inspections of all aspects required for coating the structures. He monitored the work completed each day and completed daily reports on Mobile Inspector/Site Manager.
